Lucy A. Grumbach

Longtime Dundalk resident, Lucy (Lou) A. Grumbach (December 12, 1926-October 20, 2018) , born in San Piero Patti, Sicily, moved to Dundalk at age 3 with her family. After attending Sparrows Point High School, Lou worked at Bethlehem Steel, at Fort Holabird, as a legal secretary, and eventually became a librarian for Baltimore County. Lou may be best known for her gracious manner and thoroughness in all that she accomplished and her dedicated community service. She held leadership positions in a wide variety of community organizations including the Dundalk Concert Association, the Woman’s Club of Dundalk, the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority, the Maryland Arts Council and the founding committee for the Dundalk Community College, which later became part of the CCBC system. In 1994, she was named the Optimist Club of Dundalk’s Citizen of the Year.

Impact

The scholarship fund was created in her memory by her children. The intent of this scholarships is to provide scholarship assistance to an underserved population of naturalized or first–generation US citizens attending the Community College of Baltimore County Dundalk campus. This scholarship is open to students of all backgrounds who are committed to increasing the representation of women in post-secondary education.
